Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
News and Notes: Congratulations to our eleventh graders who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Sunday, October 22 at OLA. Bishop Mark O’Connell will anoint them with the sacred chrism that will seal their baptism and empower them with the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit to be strong witnesses for Christ and active members of the Church for the rest of their lives. Thanks to the parents of our Confirmation candidates, Pam Guerrieo, our Director of Youth Formation, and all prior catechists and faith formation personnel for their respective roles in preparing our young men and women for this liturgical and spiritual milestone in their lives.
News about the upcoming annual Pledge Campaign in our Parishes
As you think about your financial contribution to SMG or OLA this coming year, please remember both the operating expenses and the capital needs of your parish. The capital needs at SMG include the heating pipes in the Church and Church Hall, the sound system, and side stairs of the Rectory; and at OLA, they include the doors of the Church and Office Building, the sound system in the Church and the chimney on top of the Office Building. We are called to be good stewards of our buildings and property. Each year we pledge to do whatever is pressing and affordable in our parishes. Thanks for your generous support of your respective parish!
Some biblical quotes to ponder in preparation for making your annual pledge to support your particular parish this coming year with your treasure:
“Give alms in proportion to what you own. If you have great wealth, give alms out of your abundance; if you have but little, distribute even some of that. But do not hesitate to give alms; you will be storing up a goodly treasure for yourself against the day of adversity…alms are a worthy offering in the sight of the Most High for all who give them.” (Tobit 4:7-11)
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth…but store up treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
Blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
