Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
News and Notes: Next weekend, we start a new liturgical year with the First Sunday of Advent. Friday, December 8 is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holyday of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated on 12/7 at 4PM (OLA); and on 12/8 at 7AM (SMG); 9AM (OLA); and 7PM (SMG).
Every three years, each parish in the Archdiocese of Boston can nominate one of its own lay men or women to receive the Bishop Cheverus Award in recognition of their exemplary service in the name of the Lord. These nominees are cited for their many years of generous, humble, and often unrecognized service in support of the Church’s mission. They are among the unsung heroes of a given Catholic community. This year, I am pleased to announce that Dick Gelotti of OLA has been chosen to receive the Cheverus Award medal. Among many contributions Dick has made to OLA over the years is his diligent work as sacristan, altar server, and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Mass and at Sunrise in Lynnfield. Dick will receive his award from Cardinal Sean O’Malley at a Prayer Service and Reception next Sunday, December 3 at 2PM at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street in Newton. Everyone from our Collaborative is welcome.
Once again this year, our Advent almsgiving will benefit the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless goal to provide “250 beds for 250 Children before Christmas.” Children and adults alike are invited to participate in this noble charitable effort.
Blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
