Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
News and Notes: I am happy to announce that Cardinal Sean O’Malley has selected two members of the Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative among others throughout the Archdiocese of Boston to receive the annual Cheverus Award this year. They are Sister Josephine Harty from Our Lady of the Assumption School; and Jim McGovern from St. Maria Goretti Parish. Cardinal Sean instituted the Cheverus Award (named after Bishop Cheverus, the founding bishop of the Archdiocese) in 2008, the bicentennial year of the Archdiocese. The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor laypeople, religious and deacons who serve the Church with distinction over an extended period of time. These men and women are typically considered to be “unsung heroes” or “pillars of their parish or community of faith.” They are known to serve the People of God in a quiet, unassuming and often unrecognized way, which is certainly the case with Sr. Josephine and Jim. Cardinal Sean will present them with the Cheverus medal on Sunday, November 29 at a 3PM Prayer Service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street in Boston. Bus transportation will be available on a limited basis. All are welcome to attend. Join me in congratulating Sr. Josephine and Jim McGovern on receiving this award!
Save the dates! St. Maria Goretti Parish will host a Pancake Breakfast next Sunday, November 22 following the 10AM Mass. The Lynnfield Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service will be held at St. Paul Episcopal Church on Summer Street later that Sunday, 11/22 at 7PM. Following our rotation of worship sites for our Collaborative Thanksgiving Day liturgy, we will celebrate Mass at 9AM on Thursday, November 26 at OLA. Here is the schedule for Christmas Masses in our two parishes:
