Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

The readings this weekend speak of that final day when time and history will cease, and the Lord Jesus will return in glory for the last judgment and the general resurrection.  While many people may fear or dread that day, this is not a Catholic take on the end times. This is not the faith of our Church.

The readings are meant to inspire us to derive whatever good we can from our setbacks and suffering in this life.  They are also meant to spur us on to live with steadfast faith in Christ every day, to watch and wait for the Lord’s final coming in glory, and to hope that we will enjoy his company forever.  May the Eucharist help us to await Christ’s return, not with fear and trembling, but with a joyful hope and a lively charity all the days of our lives!
