Sixth Sunday of Easter
News and Notes:
Friends are one of life’s precious gifts. How sweet it is and how blessed we are, then, that Jesus considers us his friends! Today’s gospel contains one of the more memorable lines in Scripture: “There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Christ loved us so much that he gave his life for us.
Our call every day is to demonstrate our friendship with Christ by laying down our lives for others. We do this by making charity a habit, a way of life, not just an occasional episode or an event here and there.
On this Mother’s Day, we honor all our mothers, living and deceased, who have laid down their lives in loving service of their children and families. And we honor our Blessed Mother, who always said yes to the Lord, who carried Jesus in her heart and womb, and how was Jesus’ first and best disciple. With the help of Mary’s prayers and example, may we live our friendship by laying our lives for others!
