Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
News and Notes: During the month of July, our Collaborative Social Justice Committee, Justice for Jesus, is inviting us to focus on one of the Spiritual Works of Mercy, which is to forgive offenses willingly. This weekend, we are celebrating the feast day of one of our Collaborative patronesses, St. Maria Goretti, a young woman renowned for the mercy and forgiveness she extended to the man who attacked and murdered her because she refused his advances rather than compromise her chastity. Join us for a collation in honor of St. Maria following the 10AM Mass at SMG this weekend. May she inspire and assist us in forgiving those who have offended us in big or small ways!
I am happy to announce the appointment of Bethany Kilroy to the position of Faith Formation Coordinator at St. Maria Goretti Parish for Grades 1-6. Bethany is a parishioner of SMG, and I think brings a strong faith, enthusiastic personality, and effective communication skills to her new role. Join me in welcoming Bethany to our Faith Formation Team for the upcoming academic year.
Now that the ceiling tile work in OLA Church is nearing completion, I want to alert everyone to another summer project that will take place at OLA beginning the last week in July, and that is the work of redoing the front stairs of the Church, which have deteriorated badly over the years. This construction work will take about two weeks, forcing the closure of the front entrance of the Church and requiring everyone to use the side entrances of the Church for that short period of time. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we continue to address the capital improvement needs of our parishes and school. Blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
