Feast of the Epiphany

Many thanks to Jim Dennis, Jayson Cote, the musicians, soloists and choirs from both parishes, the fundraisers and all those who contributed in any way to our wonderful Christmas concert on Sunday, December 15 at St. Maria’s.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon of song in preparation for the feast of Christ’s birth, and it netted around $8,000 for a new scholarship fund at Our Lady’s school in honor of Kate Sullivan who is celebrating her 40th year on the faculty of OLA.  Thanks also to all those who served in any capacity to make our Christmas liturgies so beautiful.  At the advice of the Finance Councils of both parishes, we have recently mailed out “Fair Share” letters to those parishioners from SMG and OLA who do not contribute financially to the Offertory of their respective parish.  We are asking them to consider a very modest donation to help defray the operating costs of the parish in which they are registered.  Currently, a very small percentage of families in both parishes are carrying the financial burden of our communities of faith.  If the folks receiving this letter are unable to make such an offering, we will pray for them and continue to offer the best pastoral service we can to assist them in their spiritual journey.  We encourage everyone to use the envelopes and other forms of planned or pledged giving like St. Maria’s Offertory Awareness Program or an automatic withdrawal through a check issued by one’s bank.  These are great ways of regularly supporting the mission of your parish.  Thanks to everyone for your generous stewardship of OLA and SMG this past year!

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Cindy Donovan to the position of Grade Level Coordinator of grades 1 and 2 in the Religious Education program at OLA.  As many of you know, Cindy taught a second grade class at OLA School for several years and is very familiar with the First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion formation program for young children.  She brings much experience, a sparkling personality and a genuine love of our little ones to her new role of service at OLA.  Welcome back, Cindy…and New Year’s blessings to all!
