Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
News and Notes: This weekend (February 3-4), we will observe the optional Memorial of St. Blaise, a bishop and martyr of the 4th century, by offering the traditional Blessing of Throats after all the Masses. This ritual honors the renowned healing charism of St. Blaise; and it is certainly well-timed, during winter, and the cold and flu seasons. All are welcome to have their throat blessed by a priest, deacon or lay minister.
Next weekend (February 10-11) we will celebrate World Day of the Sick, “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of humankind (Pope St. John Paul II).” We will anoint those who wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick after both 4PM Masses on Saturday, during the 10AM Mass at SMG, and after the 11AM Mass at OLA on Sunday. Join us for one of these liturgies and blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
