Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

News and Notes:

National Marriage Week... This past week (February 7-14) was National Marriage Week, an opportunity for the Church to celebrate the vocation of sacramental marriage.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that husband and wife, in their intimate communion of life and love, are leaders of their own “domestic church,” a miniature church in any given household.  In their faithful and fruitful conjugal love, spouses are “by word and example…the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children.”   Thanks to all our married couples for their beautiful vocation and for the many ways they build up our parishes through their loving service!

Lenten Almsgiving: The Missionary Childhood Association... With the season of Lent fast approaching (Ash Wednesday is February 26), I want to tell you about our new Lenten almsgiving project this year.  We will be collecting donations for the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA), which is a Pontifical Mission Society.  It was founded in France by Bishop Charles de Forbin Jansen in 1843; and its purpose is to encourage children to be aware of the needs of children living in mission dioceses around the world and to support them both spiritually and sacrificially. Today MCA is in 110 countries and helps make Jesus known to children all over the world.  Under MCA’s banner “children helping children,” monies raised through schools and parishes are directed towards self-help programs involving the building of schools, the provision of health and nutrition programs and medications, school fees, and teaching and learning resources.  From the First Sunday of Lent (March 1) through Palm Sunday (April 5), a special collection will be taken up during the 9 and 11AM Masses at OLA and the 10AM Mass at SMG to support this worthy cause.  OLA School will again be participating in our Almsgiving project this Lent.

Blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
