Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The bottom line of this gospel passage today is that Jesus is calling us to live by a higher moral standard than what our civil law requires or our culture preaches. Friends, if we hope that our efforts to pass on the Catholic faith to our children will really bear fruit; if we want to do our little part in transforming our world so that it looks more like the Kingdom of God; if we are truly to become the salt of the earth and the light of the world, then we Christians need to strive for excellence in our character and a surpassing holiness in our soul. It is certainly possible, but only with the help of God, the nourishment of the Eucharist, and our all-in commitment to Christ… because for disciples of Jesus, just OK is not OK.
