Second Sunday of Advent

Although the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not a holyday this year, you are welcome and encouraged to attend one of two Masses on Monday, December 9 when we will mark this great feast:  7AM at St. Maria’s and 9AM for an OLA School Mass at Our Lady’s.  Don’t forget Jim Dennis’ Christmas Concert next Sunday afternoon (2:30PM) at St. Maria’s.  All proceeds will go OLA School.  This weekend we have a chance to thank Eileen McMahon for her decades of service to Our Lady’s as the parish organist.  Eileen and her husband Bob were pioneers in music ministry at OLA.  I have fond memories of singing the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ on Good Friday thirty years ago with Bob and Fr. Mehm.  The McMahons were so hospitable to me, welcoming me as a newly ordained priest to the parish and helping me to start a prayer group that bore much spiritual fruit for me and others.  Eileen has often said that she gave her life to Our Lady’s, and we are all the better for her dedicated service over so these many years to help us sing God’s praises.  Eileen will continue to sing in the 11AM adult choir so her service will go on.   Join us in the OLA Church Hall following the 11AM Mass this weekend for a reception in Eileen’s honor.  The one and only collection at all the Masses in both parishes on Christmas Eve and Day will be taken up to support the Clergy Funds, which covers the retirement, medical and financial needs of the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston.  Fr. Tony and I are so grateful for your kind and gracious support of us and thank you in advance for your generous contribution to the Christmas Clergy Funds collection for all of our brother diocesan priests.  If you wish to make a Christmas donation to either parish, please mark your check accordingly in the memo line or on a separate envelope.  Advent blessings to all of you in the week ahead!
