Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
There is at the core of our basic humanity this choosing gene, this decision-making ability, that used wisely, can make life all God intends it to be, or used poorly, leaves life hungry, unfulfilled, storm-tossed, and downright empty. Perhaps we need to hear Joshua’s words again: “Decide today whom you will serve.” When Jesus asked his closest disciples if they too would leave him, they said: “To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” The choice above all choices is always to follow Jesus Christ. He not only has the words of eternal life; he is eternal life; he is our bread of heaven, our good shepherd, our loving savior. So today, with the help of the Eucharist, let’s choose Christ. For when we do, when we choose to align our values with his values, our way with his way, our attitude with his attitude, our future with his future, we choose the one person who will inform and empower all the choices we make for as long as we live!
