Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

News and Notes:

As we continue our celebration of the Year of the Eucharist, here is a meditation by St. Alphonsus Liguori on spiritual communion with our Lord Jesus Christ:

Spiritual communions are a most powerful help to receive the Holy Eucharist with the proper dispositions.  Hence, I exhort all who desire to advance in the love of Jesus Christ, to make a spiritual communion at each [in-person] visit to the Blessed Sacrament, and at each Mass…at the beginning, middle, and end of the visit, or of the Mass [this holds now whether one is present at Mass in a church or watching a Mass broadcast on an electronic medium]. This devotion is more profitable than some may imagine it to be, and is, at the same time, most easy.  It may be made as often as we please, without being observed by anyone, without fasting.  It consists of an act of love [expressed in our own words].

Blessings to all of you in the summer days ahead!
