Sixth Sunday of Easter
The apostles remembered that Jesus’ farewell gift to them was peace – and it is a gift to us today. Whenever we get upset, all riled up about something, whenever we have the butterflies of anxiety in our stomachs, whenever worries take up residence in our heads or the winds of change become too stiff… Christ invites us to call on the Paraclete, the one we call the Holy Spirit to bring us Christ’s gift of peace. This is a peace that no medicine can provide; a peace that money cannot buy; a peace that the world cannot give. It is a peace that assures us of Christ’s providence, his loving care, not matter what.
May the Spirit fall afresh on us, and bless us with Christ’s gift of peace. Receiving the Eucharist on the Lord’s Day will give us a weekly foretaste of the Lord’s heavenly peace.
