Family Promise North Shore Boston aims to return newly homeless families to economic self-sufficiency, while serving each family that experiences homelessness in a manner that embraces the dignity and strength of the family. To avoid the costly and time-consuming process of creating shelters, they use existing resources in an interfaith network of local congregations. Families receive meals and overnight lodging at houses of worship, which take turns sheltering families one week at a time. During the day, guests have access and transportation to their Day Center, where professional social workers help them attain employment, sustainable housing and other services as needed. Our parish's Justice for Jesus social justice ministry partners with Family Promise. To find out more about our parish's involvement or to volunteer, contact Linda Beaver.

The ministry was founded to offer spiritual support to families in crisis due to a loved one struggling with an addiction. This is a component often lacking in secular support groups and meetings. At three monthly gatherings, the community joins in intercessory prayer while in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, a guest speaker gives a faith witness of hope talk, and an opportunity for fellowship and networking is available afterwards.

Named in memory and honor of Michael Dalton who tragically died of an opioid overdose in 2018, the mission of Think of Michael is to help other individuals and families battling substance use disorder by offering needs-based sober house scholarships and support. Individuals transitioning from detox need access to continued aftercare treatment while living in a sober, safe, supportive environment with other people experiencing the same issues. This is a critical part that is not covered by insurance and lack of funds can send people back to the same people, places and things, making a relapse more likely. Think of Michael was founded by the Dalton family, parishioners of Saint Maria Goretti Parish.
