Blessing of the Statue

Bishop Mark O'Connell blesses statue of Pier Giorgio Frassati at SMG 10/31/21

On October 31, Bishop Mark O'Connell celebrated the 9:30am Mass at St. Maria Goretti Church and blessed our new statue of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. Heartfelt thanks to the generous anonymous donor who not only funded the specially commissioned statue, but also provided informational materials -- books, prayer cards, lapel pins, rosaries -- to help us learn more about this soon-to-be saint and model for our young people. Additional thanks to Paul DiBiase of DiBiase Homes who renovated to the church space to provide a proper shrine area, and to Mary Taggart of TaggArt Studio in Wakefield for sharing her artistic talents to provide the mountain scene, monstrance, and quote that surround the statue. And last but not least, we thank Fr. Tony Luongo, who spearheaded and nurtured this project from the first brainstorming conversations to the final flower arrangements of mountain laurel.
